Braltus® – risk of inhalation of capsule

Braltus® is the preferred brand of tiotropium inhaler in GGC.  In May 2018, the MHRA issued a warning about the risk of inhalation of the capsules if placed in the mouthpiece of the Braltus® Zonda® inhaler device.

Key messages

  • Patients should be trained to place the Braltus® inhalation capsule in the correct chamber of the Zonda® inhaler device and not in the mouthpiece
  • Capsules should be stored in the screw-cap bottle provided (never in the inhaler)
  • Patients should always check the mouthpiece is clear before inhaling
